Movers and Shakers Are Not Born – They Are Made
February 5th, 2010Author: adminMovers and Shakers are people who get things done. They are the entrepreneurs who literally create value out of thin air while having access to very limited resources. They are the unstoppable achievers. Eternally on the move starting new projects or resuscitating defunct ones. They are the wonderful alphas without which the economy would soon plunge to a screeching halt.
Most of these super-achievers were not born with a silver spoon in their mouths or a limitless bank account in their names. However they all have a few things in common; passion and a burning desire to succeed and to achieve. They also have a dim view of the word “impossible” and they, and they alone, get to define what their personal limits are.
Thinking outside the box and shifts in paradigms is part of their daily routine. They have no desire to join anyone’s parade. They want to be upfront leading the band and creating the sweet smells and sounds of success.
They were not born mover/shakers. They created themselves the same way that professional athletes do it. Starting in the minor leagues, they pushed forward relentlessly until their names became part of everyday conversation and subjects of admiration.
One of the greatest lessons that those brave men and women have learned is that resourcefulness is more important than resources. It’s not what they have that really counts; it’s how imaginative and creative they are that will make the real difference.
Anyone with sufficient cash can start a business but only a truly imaginative entrepreneur can do the same without a penny to his name. Recently the local newspaper told the story of a young man who wanted to launch his singing career. He needed a big splash to create the momentum to get it started.
To make his dream come through he personally sold copies of his first CD on street corners and amassed over fifty thousand dollars. With that money he rented a large theater in Chicago where he gave his first concert. He then told the story to the medias who just ate it up. It made headlines and was broadcasted in the news. He is now a budding star and well on his way to becoming a huge success. He did not have the resources but he had resourcefulness. That’s what really counts.
Anyone with enough passion, determination and enthusiasm can turn mud into gold. What we tend to forget is that those “overnight success” started with next to nothing and turned pure energy into physical reality. They turned the invisible into the visible and the dream to reality through work and determination.
People who succeed are so busy looking for opportunities that they have no time to even thinks of possible failure. They know that opportunities abound and that they are all around us. The problem is that they are invisible with the commonly used paradigms.
Where one person will see a swamp, another will see it transformed as an inviting and very lucrative campsite. Where most people see used tires as a threat to the environment, someone else will see them recycled into various other rubber products such as mats for gyms etc.
There is a mover/shaker and an entrepreneur in every one of us. It simply lies there waiting to be discovered and exploited. We have everything needed to excel and to succeed. All that is needed is a wake up call, a call to action. Some will heed the call, wake up and succeed. Others will wait for opportunities to break down the front door, jump on their laps and beg to be used. It’s going to be a long wait.
