Avoiding a Moving Scam – Finding Good Interstate Movers

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

When a person is ready to relocate, they often think about how to avoid getting scammed by a moving company. There are lots of stories in the news as of late highlighting various moving scams. There are literally thousands of different companies out there, but most of them are not going to give you what you need. For those of you in this situation, it is important that you take a few steps to avoid problems.

Check and Verify

When looking at interstate movers, you should always be sure to check everything. Each moving company should have license numbers, DOT numbers, and references. Any good company should be happy and willing to provide these numbers to you upon request, and you should be sure to follow up on them. Contact the references and ask about the service, punctuality, price, and overall job. Call the Better Business Bureau and make sure there are no complaints against the company. Verify that the licenses are all legal and that everything is up to date an in order.

Ask the Right Questions

You should always contact the interstate movers on your short list before you even think about hiring them. Asking the correct questions will go a long way to make sure you get good and solid information from a company, which will enable you to know if you have chosen a winner. Make sure that you ask about the information mentioned above as well as the type of contract and estimate that they offer. Look into a binding quote from the moving companies that you are interested in as these quotes cannot be pushed up later. Make sure that the company knows the laws like you do. Many companies will even give out a pamphlet to all customers to make sure that all rights and responsibilities are met on both sides of the fence.

Know what to do

Even after doing all of the research, it is possible to run into trouble. Knowing how to handle the situation is just as important as any other aspect of your move. Should the movers show up to your new home and demand more money on the spot before your things are unloaded, you may be dealing with a scam. Reacting fast is an important part of knowing what to do, and you should not meet the demands of the drivers. Do not agree to the demands of the company and call the police instead, but make sure that you write down any numbers on the truck or other descriptive information.

Keep Yourself Covered

In the end, you may still meet with some form of a moving scam. It is vital to keep yourself covered in case something like this should happen. Consider finding a different way to move any items that insurance cannot ultimately replace, and then get insurance to cover anything else you are moving. Various different companies offer different policies for all kinds of needs. Make sure to discuss your needs with the agent before choosing a plan. Remember, it needs to cover a total loss in the worst case scenario.

By keeping these tips in mind when you are seeking out the perfect interstate movers, you should be able to find a great company. If nothing else, you will always know how to react in the event of a moving scam. Finally, insurance will allow you to replace things should you end up with a worst case event.

MAKING IT EASIER FOR THE MOVERS – AND GETTING THE SERVICE YOU EXPECT!

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Working as a moving company is hard work. I should know, as I was an engine of more than 30 years and only retired last year because of back pain. Engines often taken for granted – you pay for the service, and expected a good service. In essence, this is pretty true for any service provided, if for a plumbing or maintenance work in an air conditioning system.
Additional engines have a thing against them – it is extremely hard manual labor. If you ever do a “do-it-yourself” moving from one place to another, then you know what I mean. Probably not even remember his back pain to this day! To make it easier for their engines, while still getting the service you expect, I have compiled a list of some tips that can create a win-win situation for both you and your engines.

Put out the refreshments (and a smile)
It seems like a simple suggestion, but it really works! I’ve been in many jobs, where cold drinks, coffee, donuts and were available for the motors and many other jobs where the personalities of others and I had to annoy customers by a glass of juice. Movers are not asking for much, so the small gesture of hospitality – goes a long way. A positive attitude also helps engines, such as a smile works simple question. It’s hard enough for the engines to move an entire house in one day, why not be a pleasant experience for everyone!

KNOW WHERE YOU WANT ITEMS PLACED
Nothing frustrates removal of more than a customer who has no idea where belongings should be placed. Do yourself a favor and take a day or two to draw a plan of the new place and actually draw if you want all large items must go. Take measurements of your furniture, appliances, etc., so you will not have any surprises on moving day. For example, the measure of his bed and night tables to make sure they all fit in a sketchy area. If you’re placing the refrigerator in a corner of the kitchen, make sure there is ample room.
These seemingly obvious advice can really make the difference between a smooth and stressful for you and your engines.

HELPING YOUR MOVERS WITH COLORED STICKERS

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Until I worked in the mobile industry, I thought stickers just for kids. As I soon realized after the pioneering work for my employment in California, stickers play an important role in the proper preparation for that day of the move more important. Stickers can make or break a plan to move properly prepared, as I soon realized that all the progress made used some type of adhesive system.
These little dots of color (or otherwise) helped create a simple to an orderly plan for moving day. Over the years, I realized that the engines of California and other mobile companies, even supplied their customers with these stickers for the move.

Why stickers?
These points harmless help organize a movement properly prepared. Here’s how:

• Draw a sketch of the new residence and place a sticker of a different color in each room on the map. For example, a red tag may be placed in the room, while a green label can be assigned to the kitchen. It is crucial that no two rooms are the same color label.
• Make a list of rooms (based on the drawing), along with the corresponding labels. For example, a green label should be placed next to the word “kitchen” so that it corresponds to the drawing.
• Start packing up your belongings at the residence of age. Be sure to place the correct colored label on the box. Suppose you are packing up their master bedroom. The pictures should have the same color sticker as indicated in the list. If the master bedroom is color coded with a blue label, then apply blue sticker to every box bedroom. For this to work, every person who has that color-coded packing list. This includes engines in California or any other move.

A few days before the move, a tape copy of that list in every room in the new place. When promoters in California comes the day of the move, give each engine each copy of the list (even if they are not packing), together with the color code level. Thus, when the boxes arrive at the new residence in California developers can quickly and easily right out the box in the right room (ie, the blue color code goes in the blue box with room code ).

All Boxes are not made Equal

If you cut corners when it moves, it can be “Do-it-yourself” moving in which only the rental of the truck and takes care of everything else – the packing, unpacking, loading, unloading and even driving the truck. One area that should not skimp on quality if the boxes you use. Here’s why.

Not all boxes are created equal
If you think you’re doing a favor to collect old boxes in the supermarket, think again. Tables of age may not be able to withstand the weight of objects and can easily break during shipment, even if they are in one piece and not wet. That’s because there can be up to the level of the regular type of swap. Swap bodies are specifically designed to withstand the stress and strain placed upon them during the move. These cases (of an engine of confidence) are made of a single value or corrugated cardboard with a specific thickness. The boxes are rated according to specific thickness, or crush test of the edges (TEC). Movers often sell boxes with at least one number 32-EC (higher is better). Anything less, and the picture may not be able to withstand the pressure. The boxes can be found in a supermarket, for example, could have an index of ECT under 30, although the picture might be resistant at first glance.

Why a specific size?
Boxes of all sizes, with all the different types of dimensions. When you are moving, you should stick with specific size boxes to make the engine can easily fit all the boxes into the moving truck. If you do not keep to specific sizes, which are the gaps in the placement of the boxes and will not be able to fit the boxes in the truck. For example, all boxes must be of medium size, all large boxes of another size, all kitchen boxes of a different size, and so on. What should not happen is that you have two different pictures of average size or two large boxes of different sizes for your move.
